The 'Court Yard' is a prestigious town centre development of Penthouses and apartments, situated in the centre of Killarney, Co Kerry.

Fire risk analysis

During planning an open atrium was proposed for the main entrance to the four-storey block. Building control suggested that the inclusion of residential fire sprinklers to BS9251 would enhance the application. Residential fire sprinklers are widely accepted as an option for the protection of escape routes.

Solution

Full residential fire sprinklers were installed to all 30 apartments and penthouses having access onto the Atrium area. Pipe work was fitted within existing service ductworks to ensure that no pipe work was visible anywhere within the building. Low profile concealed fire sprinklers were used throughout to produce a very clean finish, matching the contemporary design of the apartments. The completed systems are virtually undetectable within the apartments, but are connected to a sophisticated 'intelligent' fire alarm system that monitors the entire building.
